To celebrate the addition of some of Assa’s objects to the Plasticarium’s collection, we are inviting guests to come to a guided tour of the collection and a personal co-design and 3D printing (digital manufacturing) workshop hosted by Assa Ashuach.

The museum

Unique in the world, the extraordinary collection of the Plasticarium is a work of passion. Over the years, Philippe Decelle has collected many thousands of plastic pieces from 1960, the year the first entirely plastic piece of furniture was created until 1973, the year of the petroleum crisis, with completely mixed provenance, with an extension for the post-pop period from 1987 to 2000. Plastic indirectly thanks its existence to the Second World War. Parachutes were previously made from silk, a material which primarily originates from Japan. Following the attack on Pearl Harbour, the Americans invented Nylon from which plastic is made. Although the majority of Belgian haughtily ignore this little gem in the setting of home art deco, numerous major museums have already turned to the wealth and originality of this collection. From TV sets to dress designs, all elements of daily life are shown. Amateurs and major design personalities cross with original editions from Joe Colombo, Verner Panton, Eero Aarnio, and amateurs of contemporary creations see pieces from Philippe Starck, Charles Kaisin and many other designers, both known and unknown, without forgetting the irreplaceable Tupperware products! With the collector himself as a guide, the visits will take the shape of a true meeting, sharing around a passion, an exchange between an expert in plastic and the curious from every direction. New pieces are exhibited during Design September.

The workshop

‘We should own less but with more value’, ’Things we own need to perform better for us’ – Now users can add their personal values and co-design their daily objects at home. Following last year’s Assa studio exhibition and workshop at the Victoria & Albert Museum over London’s design week, we will show a selection of 3D interactive tabletop objects, lighting and furniture designed by Assa, open to play, interact and personalise using the Digital Forming co designing technology.
